First Pigtails

While her brother's hair is just making an appearance in some areas, Lucie's hair is growing like crazy. We've given her a few trims in the front (mainly because it was growing in her eyes), but otherwise have not cut it at all. Just over the holidays, Gigi bought hair rubber bands and we tried out pigtails. We've been having fun with hairstyles ever since. Chris isn't a big fan of the one ponytail on top look (photos of that to come), but Lucie and I like it.

Staying true to her accessories-loving nature, Lucie enjoys wearing hair clips and bands. That is, she enjoys wearing them until she figures out they're there. Once she reaches up to feel something funny in her hair, however, that's it - off with the clips!

You can check-out Lucie's first modeling gig for a stay-at-home mom's business. The secret to these cute clips is the velcro inside - perfect for securing fine baby hair.

Goodwill and Goodbye

All babies go through clothes quickly and ours are no different. But with boy-girl twins, there aren't a lot of outfit sharing opportunities, so we end up with twice as much. The favorite items that managed to survive in relatively good shape are stored away for a future day. Everything else ends up at our local Goodwill center.

Here Ryan and Lucie formally inspect the latest delivery. Of course, a few more items are "saved" as a result.

What a Life

Lucie has taken to feeding her brother (after a few mouthfuls for herself, of course). It all started when we'd ask her to find Ryan's bunny blanket to soothe him when he was upset. She'd gladly hop up, toddle around until she found it, and bring it to her brother. Now she enjoys bringing him all sorts of stuff, including sippy cups, books, and snacks placed directly in his mouth.

Ryan has no complaints about this recent development. He sits back and smiles contentedly like a figure in Greek mythology being fed grapes. In this case, it's not grapes, but Veggie Booty that he's munching on. Little does he know it has kale and cabbage in it, but it sure looks like he enjoys it. Maybe if we got sis to give him meatballs (his least favorite food), he'd eat that too?

Long and Lean

Lucie and Ryan had their 15 month checkup today. These appointments always serve as a reminder of how fast our babies are growing up. The main thing on our list to discuss with their pediatrician: weight.

Unfortunately, our month of illness spilled over into January as Lucie, Ryan, and I were all stricken with the stomach flu over New Years. Megan helped us quickly recover, but we knew we had lost some of our recent holiday weight gain. Stripped down to their diapers, Lucie weighed 18lbs, 13ozs (5th percentile) and Ryan tipped the scales at 22lbs, 4ozs (20th).

Despite the small numbers, the pediatrician said Lucie and Ryan are doing great. They are tracking consistently on the percentile charts so we're just bound to have skinny babies for a while. Height measurements are more important to us anyway. I figure they can always follow their dad's lead and gain weight later on in life. Lucie was measured at 31 inches (60th) with Ryan one inch taller (75th).

Our long and lean babies definitely need the extra-long bath towels made by my Aunt Tammie following bathtime.

Hey, Sis - Wait for Me

Now that Lucie has mastered her walking, it's Mr. Ryan's turn to take his first steps. Officially, he began walking in mid-December, with his first steps taken at Lucie's doctor appointment during her bout with pneumonia. With all eyes on his sick sister, I guess he decided it was time for a little attention to be directed his way!

Since those first steps, he's been tentatively trying out his walking skills. Each day we see improvement and more confidence. Lucie's daily walking adventures can't help but inspire Ryan to start trying out the world on foot too. The days of two toddlers running in different directions are sure to be here in no time.
